Recently, Ocean Engine released 2020 Douyin user portrait report. According to the report, DAU of Douyin has reached over 400 million. It is a 60% increase compared to a year ago which recorded 250 million.
The overlapping between Douyin and Toutiao is 32.1%. Douyin gets 42.2% overlapping users. The overlapping between Douyin and Xigua is 24.6%; Douyin gets 29.5% overlapped users.

Overall demographic of Douyin: male and female ratio is getting more balanced. 19-30 years old Target Group Index (TGI) is high. New first tier, third tier and below city users are with higher TGI. Users’ preferences on video genre (interpretation, livelihood, food) play rate is higher. Meanwhile, emotional, cultural, film & television related videos grow faster.

Male users are more into military, games and cars without surprises. Furthermore, female users are more into cosmetics, makeup, maternal & infant, fashion. Millenniums are more into gaming, electronic products and fashion.

Post-95 are into gaming, electronic product, fashion. Also, post-90s are more interested in films and television, maternal & infant and food. Post-80 are very likely to watch videos related to automobile, Maternal & Infant and food.

Moreover, the loyalty of the users is just second to the two social giants, WeChat and QQ. Of which 38% users spend daily usage time of more than 30 minutes per person on Douyin.
